Meski, the blue source

If you are going to Merzouga desert there is a spot on the way that you should definitely stop and have a look, maybe a bath too.

Meski, the blue source is situated outside Errachidia, on the way to Rissani and Merzouga.

There is the camping and a pool, where you can stay for a few days camping or just going to have a relax afternoon at the pool, with natural water. The camping is nice, with a few shops around were you can buy souvenirs or trade, they like trading.

But there is not only the pool and the camping. Meski is a village, a community, the surroundings of Meski is a big land of vegetable gardens for the people living there. The river, Oued Ziz, crosses the land full of weed, palm trees and a variety of vegetables, depending on the season. Women clean their laundry on the river, donkeys relax peacefully on the river side and men and women work in their land.

In one side is the old village, the Kasbah. Where people used to live, now it’s a beautiful and stunning ruins. I recommend you to go up there and explore the ruins. With a little bit of imagination you will discover the living areas, the kitchens of the houses and even the village meeting place for prays. The views are also incredible, the whole Meski Valley full of gardens and palms trees.

Walk the big extension that will end up in a cliff, where you will enjoy the views of the Meski Valley. To go back to the pool or the camping, walk the side of the ruins. There are nice caves under the old village.
